Mountain Morning Red Tea
Mountain Morning Red Tea
REGENERATIVE ORGANIC ASSAM LARGE-LEAF RED TEA
Origin: Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan
Net Weight: 50g | 1.8oz
Servings: 20 cups | re-steep for up to 60-80 cups
Our Notes:
Mountain Morning is a highly accessible, no-nonsense Assamica “red tea” (what we in the western world would call “black tea”). It comes from old-growth tea trees in Sun Moon Lake, a stunning alpine lake located in the middle of Taiwan that entices you to get lost staring into the horizon while it reflects the surrounding mountains, as we did every morning on our visit in January. While we have some brewing suggestions below, this is a tea that invites you to play, like an old friend that reminds you of your true creative essence. Plug in your coordinates, sure, and then let it flow like a conversation between you and Nature.
As the warmth fills my cup, I notice it’s a tea that excites me to greet the Nature waiting outside my front door. I don’t feel like I’ll find it in moist, moss-covered river rocks but rather at the tips of the redwoods as the sun rises and lifts the dew away. I can feel my feet on the earth, hear the birds signal to my mind that we are safe, and feel the curiosity stir and ask what creation has for me to connect with today. If I was really loving alliterations, I would call it Monday Morning Mountain Red.
About the Farmer
About the Farmer
Su Shui Ding (蘇水定)
Mr. Su Shui Ding exemplifies the change we wish to see in the world. He is a man who has a deep love and appreciation for Nature, staying committed to cultivating tea in harmony with the land through traditional, regenerative organic farming, or as he calls it, “the way of my father,” in a country where only 1.5% of tea farming is organic. His neighbors have grown rich by turning their mountains into conventionally farmed plantations, yet through years of steady hard work and saving, Mr. Su has instead chosen to purchase the lands adjacent to his farm so that the agricultural practices of his immediate neighbors do not influence his farm. Mr. Su’s integrity and love shine through in the energy of his tea.
